Alabama artist creates garden art from recycled metal

Desh Raj SharmaMay 3 2010

Brett Cleveland has been working in metal for almost eight years now. From simple garden stakes to large-scale custom sculptures, gates, and railings, his art relies on using more recycled components in his work. At Red Grass Designs, he polishes discarded mixed steel and stainless steel to come up with some freestanding metal panels that are fine art pieces of course.

I like to make contemporary art because, for me, it's making something that's one of a kind… As an artist, I'm always looking toward using recyclable material.

He routinely displays his grass art at craft fairs in Washington, Oregon and California, through summers. However, if you are a Ferndale resident, you can see his works displayed at the Master Gardener Sale May 8 onwards.
