A New Mini Ozone Hole Formed Due to Frigid Temperatures

Irani SenJan 24 2006

To add to the prolonged healing of the ozone hole, frigid temperatures in Europe and very cold air in the stratosphere have created a mini hole in its layer above the Netherlands. Unlike the large hole over Antarctica this hole will last a few days and is a different phenomenon from the earlier, which lasts several months. The Dutch national weather service informed this, as reported by Expatica News and the Netherlands' national news agency ANP.

A new temperature has been recorded here by a weather balloon above the Netherlands, which is as low as -86.8 Celsius. The chemical balance of the air currents is affected by the extreme cold. If low-lying clouds allow, Polar Stratospheric Clouds will be visible. It's a rare sight in the Netherlands.
