But, residents of the hurricane-prone areas -- be aware! The last few months' records of weak cyclonic activity may prove deceiving during the later half of the year! - It may eventually witness and bear the burns of as many as nine storms developing into hurricanes this year, forecasters warn.

The US government's Climate Prediction Center informs that the six-month Atlantic season that commenced on June 1 is expected to remain well above-average, to as much as a total of 13 to 16 tropical storms are expected to form in the Atlantic basin by the next few months of the year -- 7 to 9 of them becoming hurricanes.

Urging residents along coastal areas not to let their guard down, Gerry Bell -- the lead seasonal hurricane forecaster at the Climate Prediction Center - said,

The fact we have seen no hurricane so far (this year) means absolutely nothing. Complacency is not good. We found that people who prepare fare much better than those who don't.

So, residents of the hurricane-prone region, its time to not just prepare for the nature's strongest fury-season but also for an 'active' era of hurricanes.
