The New York-born, but now Melbourne-based commercial designer and illustrator Derek Gores loves to play and create art with outdated magazines that were otherwise destined to be in some landfill for sure. Starting his artistic journey at age 7 with the “Stars Wars” characters, he now has a decade of experience behind him – so marked in his collage art. The graphic designer utilizes hand-rip recycled magazines, maps, and schematics to bring out his caricatured posters, which characterize feminine qualities of the figure he draws on an unusual canvas.
His list of clients includes Lucasfilm, U2, Sublime, the NFL, ESPN, Major League Baseball, and Reebok. Currently, he is working on five of his signature collage pieces for the new Orlando Magic arena (opens this September), and some other works of art for New Contemporary Movement exhibition at the London Miles Gallery.
