B.O.B. car – An ingenious contraption made from reclaimed parts

Robert Lange has developed an innovative vehicle called the Balanced-Over-Batteries. A good three years of dedication and hard work have gone into the making of this ingenious machine that was made using reclaimed parts. Deriving inspiration from skateboard trucks, which use the tilting movement of the board to adjust the angle of the wheels, hence facilitating the steering movement, Lange came up with this pioneering vehicle.

The B.O.B. car is a single passenger vehicle with batteries placed just below the passenger compartment. The hi-tech cars of today comes with power steering facility, but the inventor has provided the same simply by balancing act of the batteries. At curves, the batteries counterbalance the leaning of the vehicle’s passenger compartment.

Lange has incorporate recycled parts to construct the B.O.B. car. The front and rear differentials were taken from 1975-76 Pintos, the brakes came from a Yamaha motorcycle, and the steering mechanism is adapted from a helicopter tail-rotor gearbox. Each rear-end integrates two computer sync motors with chain drive. The car comes with two speeds, which can be achieved by simply changing the voltage between 36-72 volts. These recycled parts contributed in bringing the cost as low as $500.
